Dimout fabric sits between a sheer and a blackout. It is a denser, heavier weave that cuts glare and gives full privacy, day and night, while still letting a soft glow of daylight into the room. That makes it the everyday curtain for living rooms, dining rooms and offices, where a completely dark room is not wanted.
Dimout is the largest part of the JOTEX catalogue, from plains to stripes, checks, herringbones and florals. LAUREN is a 100% polyester plain at around 225 gsm and 300 cm wide, and COMO is a 100% polyester plain at around 280 gsm and 320 cm wide with a 20,000-rub Martindale rating, so it can double as a cushion fabric. The wide widths let curtain makers make seamless floor-to-ceiling curtains.
Dimout can be lined for extra darkness or insulation, or layered with a sheer on a double track. Allow two to two-and-a-half times the track width for fullness on pleated headings. Dimout is a curtain fabric that reduces daylight rather than blocking it. It gives full privacy and cuts glare, but lets a soft glow through. It sits between a sheer, which lets most light in, and a blackout, which blocks almost all of it.
Is dimout dark enough for a bedroom?
For most people, yes, but not for anyone who needs complete darkness. If the room must be dark for sleep, add a blackout lining to the dimout curtain or choose a blackout fabric instead.
Can dimout fabric be used for cushions?
Some dimout collections can. Check the Martindale rating on the collection page: COMO, for example, is rated at 20,000 rubs, which suits cushions and light upholstery. Collections without a rating are intended for curtains only.
