Outdoor fabric has to survive what indoor fabric never meets: strong UV, heat, humidity and rain. The JOTEX OUTDOOR range is 100% acrylic, and most of it is solution-dyed. In solution dyeing, the colour pigment is added to the fibre while it is still liquid, before it is spun, so the colour runs through every fibre rather than sitting on the surface. It is the most fade-resistant way to colour a fabric, which matters under Malaysian sun.
PATIO is a 150 cm solution-dyed acrylic at around 340 gsm for outdoor sofa and pillow upholstery. BREEZE is a lighter 260 gsm quality for cushions, pillows and shades. Both are plain weaves, so they coordinate easily across a terrace, poolside or balcony scheme.
For outdoor seating, pair the fabric with quick-dry foam and a zipped cover so cushions can be removed and aired after heavy rain, and store them during the monsoon if the area is uncovered. What is solution-dyed acrylic?
It is acrylic fibre coloured while the polymer is still liquid, before it is spun into yarn. The colour runs all the way through the fibre instead of sitting on the surface, which makes it far more resistant to fading in strong sun than fabric dyed after weaving.
Is outdoor fabric waterproof?
Not in the way a raincoat is. A woven outdoor fabric lets water through the weave and seams, but acrylic does not soak it up, so it dries quickly. Use quick-dry foam inside the cushions and ask the JOTEX team whether a collection carries a water-repellent finish.
How do I clean outdoor cushion fabric?
Brush off loose dirt, then wash with mild soap and lukewarm water, rinse well and let it air-dry. Clean spills and bird droppings promptly, and bring cushions under cover during long spells of heavy rain.
