Short answer
Hotel public spaces need curtains that look grand, work hard and meet fire rules. Lobbies use tall dress curtains and sheers that frame the glass; ballrooms and function rooms need blackout curtains on motorised tracks for presentations and events, plus heavy fabric that softens echo. All of them usually need fire-retardant fabric with a test report to the standard the project requires.
What does each space need?
| Space | Need | Suggestion |
|---|---|---|
| Lobby | Grand look; daylight; glare control | Tall dress curtains with sheers; extra-wide fabric |
| Ballroom | Full blackout for AV; echo | Blackout or blackout-lined velvet on motorised tracks |
| Function and meeting rooms | Dimming for screens; flexible spaces | Blackout on motorised tracks; divider curtains |
| Pre-function areas | Soft, welcoming light | Sheers and dimouts |
| Restaurants and lounges | Glare, privacy, atmosphere | Dimouts and sheers; see Cafe and Restaurant Upholstery |
How are tall lobby curtains made?
Lobby windows are often double height. Check that the drop fits within the fabric width if the fabric is railroaded, or join widths on opaque fabrics where folds hide the seams. Use strong ceiling tracks, weighted hems, and motors where curtains are drawn. See Curtains for High Ceilings and Fabric Width Explained.
What do ballrooms and function rooms need?
- Blackout for projectors and stage lighting, with curtains wider than the windows and on ceiling tracks or in curtain boxes. See Blackout Curtains.
- Motorised tracks so staff can darken the room from one switch. See Smart Home Curtains.
- Heavy velvets to soften echo in large, hard rooms. See What Is Acoustic Fabric?
- Divider curtains on ceiling tracks to split large rooms. See Room Divider Curtains.
- Event drapery for backdrops and stages. See Event and Wedding Drapery.
Do hotel public areas need fire-retardant curtains?
Almost always. The standard comes from the project specification and the local fire authority. Ask whether the fabric is inherently fire-retardant or treated, and get the test report to the named standard. See What Is Fire-Retardant Fabric? and Hotel and Office Curtain Fabric.
Tip
Order a whole project from one dye batch, plus spare panels, so replacements match years later.
