Short answer

Meeting rooms need glare control for screens, privacy for glass walls and some help with echo. Use sheers or dimouts on windows to cut glare while keeping daylight, blackout where presentations need a dark room, and ceiling-tracked curtains along glass partitions for privacy. Full, heavy curtains also soften echo. Check the fire standard the building requires.

What do meeting rooms need from curtains?

  • Glare control so screens and faces on video calls are readable.
  • Privacy for glass-walled rooms during confidential meetings.
  • Softer acoustics in rooms with glass, hard floors and bare walls.
  • Easy use for people who change the room often.

How do you control glare on screens?

How do you add privacy to glass walls?

A ceiling track run along the glass partition lets the curtain stack neatly to one side when not needed. S-fold suits this well, because it hangs the same from both sides. See S-Fold Curtains.

  • Dimout gives full privacy at any time.
  • Sheer softens the view, but people can see through when the room is brighter than the corridor.

Can curtains reduce echo in a meeting room?

Yes, partly. Heavy, full curtains, such as velvets hung at 2 to 2.5 times fullness, absorb some reflected sound and make speech clearer. They help most in rooms with large areas of glass. For serious acoustic treatment, combine them with acoustic panels. See What Is Acoustic Fabric? and Noise-Reducing Curtains.

What else belongs in the specification?

  • Fire standard: commercial buildings usually require fire-retardant fabric tested to a named standard. See Fire-Retardant Fabric.
  • Motorised tracks with a wall switch or room-booking control, so curtains are used as intended. See Motorised Curtain Fabrics.
  • Plain or textured fabrics behind the seats people sit in for video calls; strong patterns can distract on camera.
  • Light-fastness for sun-facing facades.

Frequently asked questions

What curtains are best for a meeting room?

A sheer or dimout for glare, with blackout if you use a projector, on a ceiling track; add curtains on glass walls for privacy.

Do curtains reduce echo?

Heavy, full curtains absorb some sound and help in glass-heavy rooms, but serious echo needs acoustic panels too.

How do you add privacy to a glass meeting room?

Hang a dimout curtain on a ceiling track along the glass, stacking to one side when not needed.

Do office curtains need to be fire-retardant?

Usually. The building's fire requirements set the standard; ask for the test report for the exact fabric.
